As I shared in the last post, my Birthday was truly wonderful. I am so blessed to have family and friends who have taken the time to really get to know me as a person and know exactly what warms my heart. It sincerely is a special feeling. I wanted to share today some of the gifts that were bestowed to me in celebration of my Birthday. Do remember that sweet little nest that my friend Heidi purchased for me at Roxanne's? Well here is what I did with it.
The apothecary jar was a gift from the family for whom I babysit. I have always wanted one but never actually went ahead and treated myself. I think I may have squealed with delight as I opened the package. With a little shredded vintage sheet music in the bottom of the jar, it made a perfect home for my little nest. I added this happy little bird and some blue eggs to finish off the display. I am so happy with the result. Then as if all my friends got together and discussed a theme this year, my wonderful friend Michele made me this sweet little bottle.
Tucked down inside the gift bag, Michele also added this lovely candy mold.
As I opened the next gift it was very apparent that my friends do know what makes me smile. My friend, Joyce surprised me with this delightful little nest which looks so perfect on my mantle.
And this little vintage creamer that I filled with more cheery eggs. I just love it's soft color.
Last night as I was thinking about this post and listening to the weatherman inform me of yet another round of snow that was headed my way, I decided it was time to display all of these wonderful gifts and to bring out the rest of my Spring decorations. I started with the mantle.....
I added a bit of netting across the mantle to soften the look.
The little girls in the picture frame are my Mom and my Aunt holding their Easter baskets. After the mantle was complete I added a few more Spring decorations to my kitchen.
When I was at a local flea market last Summer I picked up the fun vintage egg box. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it but I just had to have it. I am so glad I did because here is the result.......
Now you can see why I received "Egg"-actly what I love and why I am so "Egg"-cited for the arrival of Spring!!!
Oh my! All of your little displays are like a breath of spring....and we need that breath. We've been gasping our way through winter. I love what you did with all of the nests, eggs and birds. You have such a nice touch! xoxo
I know exactly what you mean. I want spring now! Enough with the winter already. You got the cutest things for your birthday. You must have been a good girl this year. Mimi
Mimi, I am swooning over here at the pictures in your post. Not sure which one I love the best, but I think I am leaning towards that one of the cute little bird with the eggs in the apothecary jar. Oh, I wish you could have seen my father's antique one, it always sat on my parents' diningroom table, heavy as only old glass can be! Anyway, side tracked there for a minute! You did a great job with yours. And I love your mantle, and those floral pictures hanging above it! Oh my, I am in love! And best of all your presents, in my opinion, is that DELIGHTFUL birdy candy mold. That one got my heart beating a bit faster. What a treasure!! Enjoy each and every one of your new gifts, you sure have some special people in your life who know just what it is that you like.
About Dandelion Wishes--Why a Dandelion you ask???
As I was contemplating starting my blog and opening my etsy shop, many thoughts swam in my head. What would I write about, what would I sell and what in the world would I call my blog and shop? Oh I had a list of names--which one should I choose? I finally decided on Dandelion Wishes. Why that name you ask? Why a dandelion--they are such a nuisance poking their little yellow heads right out into the beautiful green grass. Then there are those little white seed parachutes floating over my lawn just looking for a place to land and grow more little yellow heads in my beautiful grass. If I would have stopped at that thought I never would have choosen the dandelion to represent my blog. Who want's to be known as a nuisance?? Not me. As I stopped and really looked at the little yellow flower, I discovered that it is really quite beautiful. With it's many petals and it's happy yellow color I found it to be really very cheery. And then the thought struck me. There are many things that come into our lives that at first we consider a nuisance. But if we really stop to think about them, often they can become a thing of beauty--teaching lessons and helping us to grow and mature in our lives. I couldn't think of a better name for my blog and shop. It helps to remind me to stop and see the beauty in all situations, to ask myself what lesson I am to be learning, and how does this situation help me to grow into a better person. I wish that for all of you my friends as well. Thank you for visiting Dandelion Wishes. I hope you enjoy your stay.
