I have one last special Birthday gift to share with you all. This gift is so special to me not only because it was given to me by my Mom, but because she made it for me. My mom is such a talented lady and from as far back as I can remember she has loved to sew. When we were little she would sew dresses for my sister and I and make the most wonderful doll cloths for our baby dolls and Barbies. As I grew older I began to appreciate her talent more and more. There was one afternoon my mom and I were shopping and looking at the magazine section of a local drugstore. She picked up a quilting magazine and said how much she admired quilts and would love to learn how to make them. And guess what--- With some direction from some ladies at our church but mainly all on her own---she did. I love to go with her to the local quilt shop and watch her pick out fabric. She has such an eye for color and can match fabrics together to complete the most amazing quilts. This year for my Birthday she made me the most beautiful "shabby chic" quilt I have ever seen. She choose all of my favorite colors--I couldn't love it more!! One of the things I love most about this quilt is that with each washing the "raw" edges of the flowers will fray more and more so that it will have the look of chenille. Thank you Mom for this most special gift. I will treasure it ALWAYS!!!
That quilt is just one the prettiest things I have ever seen, and it matches your room's decor so well! And to think that you mom handmade it for you. Each time you perhaps use it, it will be just like your mom giving you a big hug, her love and warmth all wrapped around you in the folds of that quilt!! What a treasure. Makes me think of the one my parents got from my dad's sisters many years ago, made from scraps of fabrics that came from old clothes from his parents. My dad loved seeing that quilt and remembering the times that his parents wore that particular shirt or dress or apron. Quilts are so wonderful! ENJOY!!
Your Mom is one very talented and generous lady. You are lucky to have her. You also need to mention that she also made the pillows on your couch....and she wallpapers. Your pictures are good but this quilt is even more beautiful in person! xoxo
What a beautiful quilt! Your mother did a lovely job with the fabric choices! I purchased that same pattern a few years ago, it's called French Roses. I started on it but, of course, never finished it. Someday, I'll dig it out and work on it again.
That has got to be one of the cutest quilts ever. I love it. You are so lucky. I just may have to try this method for my grand daughters birthday next month. I have been thoroughly enjoying my visit and looking over your blog. I just love it. Janis
About Dandelion Wishes--Why a Dandelion you ask???
As I was contemplating starting my blog and opening my etsy shop, many thoughts swam in my head. What would I write about, what would I sell and what in the world would I call my blog and shop? Oh I had a list of names--which one should I choose? I finally decided on Dandelion Wishes. Why that name you ask? Why a dandelion--they are such a nuisance poking their little yellow heads right out into the beautiful green grass. Then there are those little white seed parachutes floating over my lawn just looking for a place to land and grow more little yellow heads in my beautiful grass. If I would have stopped at that thought I never would have choosen the dandelion to represent my blog. Who want's to be known as a nuisance?? Not me. As I stopped and really looked at the little yellow flower, I discovered that it is really quite beautiful. With it's many petals and it's happy yellow color I found it to be really very cheery. And then the thought struck me. There are many things that come into our lives that at first we consider a nuisance. But if we really stop to think about them, often they can become a thing of beauty--teaching lessons and helping us to grow and mature in our lives. I couldn't think of a better name for my blog and shop. It helps to remind me to stop and see the beauty in all situations, to ask myself what lesson I am to be learning, and how does this situation help me to grow into a better person. I wish that for all of you my friends as well. Thank you for visiting Dandelion Wishes. I hope you enjoy your stay.
