A Partridge in a Pantry

The Christmas season is such a wonderful, special time of year.  There is nothing like experiencing it through the eyes of a child.   I can remember watching  Alex when he was a little boy, the wonder in his eyes as he took in all the miracles and surprises the season had to bring.  His excitment carried him through the whole month of December.  He still enjoys Christmas and is blessed by Christ's birth,  but he now sees it through the eyes of an adult.  I must admit I miss those days filled with awe and amazement.  I have written before about Kate and Emma, the sweet girls I babysit during the week, and what blessings they are to me in so many ways.  They encourage me, make me smile and yes even make me laugh out loud with the things they say.  They both see Christmas through a childs eyes and their excitement overflows.  Just yesterday Emma came bouncing up the stairs singing with all her might the 12 days of Christmas.....fiveeeeeee goldennnnnn rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and "A PARTRIDGE IN A PANTRY"  I asked her to repeat what she was singing trying not to giggle.  We sang together the 12 days of Christmas and I truly think she believes the gift on the first day is a partridge in a pantry.  Oh Christmas through a childs eyes---I wish we could all experience it that way.  The awe, amazement and excitement over the miracle of Christ's birth.

I wanted to share with you all my most favorite Christmas decoration.  It is the nativity scene that once belonged to my Grandmother.  I can remember seeing it under her tree when I was a little girl and then again under my parents tree.  My sister and I together each year would set this little scene up under the family tree.  After Alex and I married, on our first Christmas together, I asked my mom if I would be able to put this treasure under our tree.  It had remained there each year until a curious little puppy came into our family and damaged the manger beyond repair.  It has since been placed in a spot of safety high atop the end table in the livingroom reminding us all of the reason we celebrate this most special time of year.

I hope you all are truly experiencing the wonders of the season--remembering the true meaning of Christmas.

Dear Mimi
You have expressed the wonder of Christmas so beautifully. The wonder of God sending His only Son here to earth being born to die for us because He loved us is beyond our understanding. I just accept it and praise Him for it. We all need to believe as children.
Love Mom

Ok-your Mom said it so beautifully...we all need to believe with the wonder of children. We need to visit the manger and see the Christ child as he comes to us, softly and quietly. Thank you for sharing this personal memory....and of course I loved Emma's redition of The 12 Days of Christmas!

I know exactly what you mean about seeing Christmas thru the eyes of children. Our youngest is eight now and I'm sure he won't believe for more than a few more years, if we're lucky. We're expecting a new baby in May so, once again, we'll have another set of bewildered eyes at Christmas time. They are all such blessings, aren't they?!!? Thanks for sharing the story of the "Partridge in the Pantry." That is adorable!! :) XOXO

Christmas is always so much better when you have children in the house. I think a partridge in a pantry makes as much sense as one in a pear tree:) Mimi

I LOVE your nativity! My nativity set is 25 years old and is showing wear and tear, but I won't replace it. It's too precious to me. My Joseph is showing some white on his scalp and Mary's clothes have a few marks, but it's those things that make my nativity so special. I always enjoy visiting your blog!

Hi dear Mimi, loved your comment on my recent post. Golly, I did not realize that what I had wrote came across as if I was telling everyone how busy I had been, when in reality I was kinda apologizing for not getting to each and every one for a visit. I get so guilty when i don't log in often enough. :-) But I do admit the days slip past me, and golly at times I do not know where the hours get to. I sooo enjoyed your post. I was just singing that song myself at breakfast yesterday when I got a card with the twelve days of Xmas on it and the words to the song! I used to think it said "3 calling birds", but in reality it is "colly birds", what ever they are. :-) Don't you just love all the different interpretations of the words in that song, and I think what ever we thought the words were as a kid just sticks with us thru out life and that is that!! :-) My kids are growing up and no longer believe of course, but I hope that we will be able to keep the magic of the holiday with us as long as possible. I will miss it when they all grow up and get on with their own lives. I can not even imagine how it will be then here in the house. I will be Scarlett O'Hara and "think about that tomorrow!". wishing you a joyous Christmas. hugs, Debby
